Start Strong
Let’s say you want to get to the gym tomorrow.
The night before, place your gym bag somewhere you are going to run right into it in the morning.
Put it literally in your way.
Nothing gets to the top of your mind faster than when something is in the most inefficient spot.
The moment you have to move it you are going to realize that it’s already packed, ready to go and in your hand. You might as well put it in the car.
When you place it in the car, put it where you are going to look at it as soon as you get back in the car. The front passenger seat is preferable.
As you leave work that bag is going to be sitting in the seat almost calling you to take it to the gym.
You worked so hard to pack it the night before. Then you had to pick it up this morning and throw it in the car. You might as well use it.
Proud of yourself for getting the bag into the car you drive to the gym for some much needed time to yourself. To better your physical and mental health.
Build your own feedback loop
Think about training a pet. You only reward the puppy when they perform a preferred action.
The key to a positive feedback loop is the “preferred” action comes before the reward.
Want to drink more water throughout the day?
One way to do that is to pour yourself a glass of water before you can prepare the morning coffee or tea. Once you have poured the glass of water you can then reward yourself by prepping and brewing your preferred beverage.
While your beverage is brewing you get to work on drinking your glass of water. Once the brewing process is over you must finish the glass of water before you can pour and indulge in the liquid gold that is the sweet aroma and rich taste of your morning beverage.
Action → Reward
When we place preferred actions in our way before we can reward ourselves it helps to create and maintain the discipline we want to see in our lives.
In other words:
Make the ultimate reward the positive preferred change you want to make.
Embrace The Change
Once you see yourself making a beneficial change it becomes infectious.
You find yourself somehow remembering ideas that have been permeating in your brain for months. You know it was something you saw on social media once and you can’t help yourself but want to try it because you feel so good about the changes you have already made that you just want to continue.
Think about productivity.
When you are productive you tend to want to continue being productive because you are happy about it.
GO FIGURE.
Are you ready to embrace change?
Then what are you waiting for?
Go for it and let it take you on a journey of self discovery.
